5 Aftercare Tips for Lash Lifts To Share With Your Clients
Posted by Elyse Aufmann on
Lash lifts are a trendy treatment that many clients want as of late. A lash lift is like a perm for the lashes; it boosts and lifts the natural lashes, giving them a beautifully full and curled appearance that will last for six to eight weeks, depending on the client’s lash cycle.
Lash lifts are a wonderful natural alternative to extensions and other lash treatments. But as with all treatments, proper aftercare is a must if your client wants their lash lift to last. To ensure your clients get the spectacular results they desire, here are five aftercare tips for lash lifts to share with your clients. As long as they follow these words of advice, their lashes will look stunning and healthy for weeks to come.
Be Gentle
This is the most important step, but it’s also one of the most overlooked. Your client needs to be gentle with their lashes post-lift, or else they risk diminishing the effects of the lift and harming their natural lashes. They shouldn’t touch or rub the area around their eyes.
Of course, we understand that the temptation to touch or rub can be irresistible when itchiness and irritation are involved. But there are other ways to soothe itchy and irritated eyes, like using a cool, damp cotton compress, using eye drops, or taking oral antihistamines (a medicine that blocks histamine responses and relieves itchiness). If your client experiences anything other than mild irritation, please have them consult with their medical professional.
Stomach sleepers won’t like to hear this, but you should also advise your client to not sleep with their face pressed into their pillow. The pressure on the face can flatten lashes. Additionally, most pillowcases come from fabric with fibers that can tug on the lashes and pull them out. Cotton pillows are notorious for this. If your client insists on sleeping facedown, silk pillowcases are the least risky.
Avoid Water and Steam
For the first 48 hours post-treatment, it’s crucial for your clients to keep their lashes dry. During this time, moisture can alter the disulfide bonds in the hair’s cortex and reverse the effects of the lift. This means your clients will need to avoid showering, swimming, and walking outside in the rain. They should also exercise caution when cooking because wet steam will impact lashes similarly.
Once the 48-hour period is over, they can go back to doing these activities without fear. However, you may want to suggest they steer clear of hot showers and baths since scalding water can break down and weaken lashes, making them feel dry like hay.
Stay Out of the Sun
Many opt to get a tint with their lift. Tints are a fantastic way to enhance the color and fullness of the lashes, but they add an extra layer of complexity to aftercare routines. If your client got a tint, advise them to keep their time spent in the sun to a minimum. Exposure to UV light can cause a tint to fade faster than normal.
But, of course, your client wants the world to see their new, beautiful lashes, so hiding in their home or emerging exclusively under the cover of the moon like a vampire won’t do. Fortunately, they can protect their lash tint by wearing a sun hat or sunglasses when they’re outside during sunny days. Swimmers can wear goggles to shield their lashes from the sun when in the water.
Use the Right Makeup Products
Your client will need to avoid all eye makeup for the first 24 hours post-treatment. After that, they can use makeup to their heart’s content, but they have to be careful about the products they use. Oil-based products, waterproof products, conditioning products, and exfoliating products will all weaken the lift.
While most water-based drug store brand products will work fine, we recommend retailing to your client Elleebana Elleeplex Aftercare Clear Mascara and Elleebana Ellevate Aftercare Mascara. Elleebana Ellevate is a gentle product made for both natural and lifted lashes. In fact, they are formulated so that you don’t even have to wait the recommended 24 hours post-treatment to apply them! They contain keratin, biotin, and arginine to keep your client’s lashes healthy and hydrated.
And at night, when it’s time for your client to remove their makeup, they can use Elleebana’s Makeup Remover, which cleans the skin and lashes thoroughly and delicately. Removing makeup at the end of the day is essential because it removes harmful bacteria, dust, and other pollutants from the skin and brow/lash hairs.
Another important note: For the same reasons your client needs to be gentle when touching their lashes, they need to be careful when applying and removing their makeup. Using rough and jerky movements can hurt the lashes. However, making slow, controlled movements will create a smoother and more natural look and keep the lashes safe.
Use Elleeplex Aftercare
You should send your clients home with Elleebana’s Elleeplex Advanced Aftercare Formula. This formula maintains lash lift results and health. It contains proteins, amino acids, keratin, arginine, allantoin, panthenol, and other vitamin-rich constituents that protect the hair and provide longer-lasting lift results.
All your clients need to do to keep their lash lift in top shape is apply a coat of Elleeplex Advanced Aftercare Formula to their lashes twice a day. They should apply it first thing in the morning and as part of their bedtime beauty routine. The formula applies under mascara, so your client can use it in conjunction with Elleebana Ellevate for maximum lift and aftercare.
You can also use Elleeplex Advanced Aftercare Formula as a finishing treatment at the salon; no need for clients to buy their own tube.
Those are the five aftercare tips for lash lifts to share with your clients. By following these tips, they can feel comfortable knowing that their beautiful, lifted lashes will be healthy and hydrated when they leave your salon.
